Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker is known as the Father of the Library
Movement in the Indian state of Kerala. The activities of the Kerala
Grandhasala Sanghom that he initiated triggered a popular cultural
movement in Kerala which produced universal literacy in the state in the
1990s.
P N Panicker Foundation, the mother organization of P N Panicker Vigyan
Vikas Kendra was established during the Sathabhishek year under the Chairmanship
of Justice V R Krishna Iyer to spearhead developmental issues focusing on
inclusive growth in tune with the technological advancement. Honouring the
father of the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’, the late P.N.Panicker, since 1996,
the State Government has been celebrating 19th June as the Day of Reading and
following week as the Reading Week. The initiative commenced in collaboration
with P.N.Panicker Foundation, transformed into a mass movement, paving the way
for the launch of Reading Mission 2022, various activities of this mission, to
be implemented in School, libraries and academic institutions.
In light of the
above, Library@K V No.1 Cantt Shahjahanpur is also going to conduct
the following activities to implement the Reading Day 2022.
